New Russian fine on Google for banned content

A Moscow District Court has imposed a new fine on Google in the amount of five million rubles (67,181 dollars) for failing to remove prohibited content.

The Russian "TASS" agency quoted the press service of the Tagansky District Court as saying that the judge decided to fine Google under an article of the Russian Administrative Code related to non-restriction of access to information.

It is scheduled to hear the court at a later time in two other cases against Google, on the same charge.

The total fines for the company currently amount to 49 million rubles (more than 658,000 dollars).

Russian courts frequently impose fines on foreign technology companies, including social media networks Facebook, Twitter and TikTok.

The authorities accuse the companies of not removing invitations to unauthorized demonstrations or publishing child pornography.
