A baby was rescued from the rubble after the collapse of a three-story house in the south of France, killing at least one person.

As the fire department in Sanary-sur-Mer announced on Tuesday, rescue workers heard the baby screaming under the rubble.

After a sniffer dog located it, the firefighters dug a tunnel through the rubble to retrieve the child.

Two adults were also rescued from the rubble.

“It took us two hours to get the baby out.

The emergency service takes care of it, it is fine, "said a spokesman for the fire department.

However, a 30-year-old man was killed in the accident.

According to the fire department, two other people were still missing. The cause of the collapse was probably a gas explosion that occurred on Tuesday night.

The crack could be heard eight kilometers away.

According to the prefecture, nine people had to leave their homes adjacent to the collapsed building.

More than 100 firefighters were involved in the rescue operation, as a fire department spokeswoman said.
