French customs will see their resources increased by more than 148 million euros and their workforce stabilized by 2025, as part of a contract of objectives and resources signed on Monday, announced the Ministry of Public Accounts.

These new resources should enable the customs department to face the new challenges of border control such as Brexit, the “dazzling” growth of e-commerce and the “aggravation of threats” linked to international trafficking and organized crime, justified the ministry in a press release.

Secure customs and its ambitions

The appropriations for this contract of objectives and resources provide in particular 20 million euros to modernize computer and digital tools, 20 million also for the acquisition of new scanners, 27 million to add two helicopters and two coastguard boats. to the customs fleet.

This contract “gives prospects to customs officers whose administration is undergoing profound changes.

It secures this ambition of a modern, coherent and innovative customs and gives customs officers and customs officers the tools to achieve this ambition ”, declared the Minister of Public Accounts Olivier Dussopt, quoted in the press release.

Streamline goods at borders

A message sent to nearly 17,000 customs officers when the loss of some of their tax missions to the benefit of the public finance department raised concerns and criticism internally.

Customs, for example, will lose the collection of the internal consumption tax on energy products (TICPE), one of the main sources of State tax revenue.

Traveling to Le Havre this Monday on the occasion of the announcement of the contract of objectives and resources, Olivier Dussopt also launched the France Sésame system, supposed to facilitate and streamline the passage of goods at the borders by giving Customs the mission of '' carry out sanitary and phytosanitary import controls.

This system is operational in the ports of Le Havre, Dunkirk and Marseille.
