A call for vigilance to preserve the end of year celebrations.

Prime Minister Jean Castex announced on Monday a series of measures and “proportionate efforts” to get through the new wave of the coronavirus epidemic without giving in to panic.

On the menu, "no gauge, no curfew, no confinement", but vigilance measures and some restrictions.

Maintain and strengthen the vaccine shield

It is our main protection against the epidemic.

The Prime Minister called to "conserve and even amplify, strengthen" the vaccine shield which currently protects the French, by accelerating the recall campaign but also the primary vaccination.

To achieve this, the Prime Minister announced that people over 65 could now get a booster dose without an appointment, "regardless of the center" they go to.

An enhanced health protocol in schools

The vaccine is not enough, however, hammered Jean Castex.

The spread of the virus must also be slowed down to preserve the hospital system in particular.

To achieve this, the head of government first decided to raise the health protocol in primary schools to level 3.

In practice, this means that children will now also have to wear the mask outside, in the playground, and that contact sports will be limited.

Collective catering times will be reorganized from Monday “in conjunction with local elected officials”.

"We will maintain our policy of systematic screening of all students if there is a positive case in the class and closing the class after three positive cases," he added.

Extension of telework recommended

The government has asked companies to encourage teleworking, with a target of "two to three days" per week.

Teleworking will also be extended up to three days in the state civil service.

An assessment will be conducted next week and, if the recommendations are not followed, the government would consider moving to the obligation.

Slow down on social interactions

Slow down on festive events and moments of conviviality, whether in the professional or private sphere.

The head of government called on the French to give up party favors, seminars but also big dinners or housewarmings at least until the end of the year celebrations in order to be able to preserve them.

Health pass controls will also be stepped up, particularly in outdoor events, such as Christmas markets.

Temporary closure of nightclubs

Prime Minister Jean Castex has announced that nightclubs will close for four weeks from this Friday, to curb the fifth wave of Covid-19.

The companies concerned will be “economically supported” by the State.

As well as caterers and event professionals, strongly affected by these restrictions.

Towards vaccination of children at the end of the year

For the 360,000 children "at risk" of developing serious forms of the virus, vaccination has already received the green light from the High Authority for Health (HAS) and "will begin on December 15," said the Prime Minister.

"The first delivery of Pfizer vaccines with a dilution suitable for children will be made on December 13," said Minister of Health Olivier Véran, inviting "parents (to) contact their doctor, their pediatrician, to find out if their child belongs to this priority category.

For the other children, around 6 million aged 5-11, the executive is still awaiting the “green lights” from the HAS and the National Consultative Ethics Committee (CCNE) but “we are organizing all the logistics (... ) to be able, when the time comes, to start vaccinating (them) without delay, ”said Olivier Véran.

"In practice, it could start around December 20 for vaccination centers, December 27 for city medicine and pharmacies," he added.
