A virologist does not rule out the end of the Corona epidemic in 2022

The Russian virologist and chief researcher at the "Gamalia" Center for Microbiology and Epidemiology, Anatoly Altstein, said that he does not rule out the end of the epidemic of the emerging coronavirus (Covid-19) in 2022.

In an interview he gave to the Ura.ru website, and reported by Russia Today, Altstein said that the emergence of the "Omicron" mutant did not cause many deaths, unlike the "Delta" mutant, so there should be no fear of it.

He added that last November, South Africa witnessed the death of 600 people due to the epidemic, and it is not known what mutations of the Corona virus were that caused their deaths.

However, even this number is 3 times less than it was in the past months, indicating that the world is sure that everything depends on people's awareness, and it is necessary to wear masks and maintain social distancing, as well as the activity of the vaccination process against the Corona virus.

And he continued: "If the Omicron mutant turns out to be less virulent than Delta, the coronavirus epidemic may end as early as next year 2022."

He continued, "I expect the pandemic to end in 2022, and this optimistic scenario of our victory over the epidemic will be achieved, provided that we wear protective masks naturally, adhere to social distancing and receive anti-virus vaccines. If we take all these steps, we can cordon off the epidemic in 2022."

General Practitioner Unpin Pillai said at a briefing today by the South African Ministry of Health (where the variant was first discovered), that although evidence is currently scarce, there are encouraging signs that current vaccines will provide some protection against the variant. Omicron, booster doses provide additional protection against disease.
