The famous sorcerer celebrates a birthday.

The first film in the saga,

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

, was released 20 years ago this Sunday, December 5.

For the occasion, the students of a Pakistani university transformed, with a wave of a magic wand, their 150-year-old campus into the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft, hosting a festival dedicated to Harry Potter.

With its vast rooms and high arched porches, Government College University in Lahore, the great megalopolis of eastern Pakistan, has often reminded its students of the world created by British writer JK Rowling.

"I can't believe I'm at Hogwarts while being in Lahore," festival student Raziah Alam told AFP.

"It was such a fun experience."

Harry Potter nostalgia for a whole generation

, complete with wands, witches and wizard hats, students welcome spectators to their version of Hogwarts' "Great Hall", decorated with broomsticks and bats. and even a place to brew mysterious potions.

can be heard in the background, as students attempt to cast spells, take pictures of themselves wearing the famous "Sorting Hat" and dress in Hogwarts-style uniforms.

"Most of these young people grew up when JK Rowling's work appeared in novels and later in films," notes Dr Asghar Zaidi, vice-chancellor of the university and himself a fan of the saga.

When students come to campus, "they see the architecture and it reminds them of Hogwarts," he says.

“I think the magic comes from the inspiration it brings to our other students,” he adds.

An ultra-realistic film signed by the students

The festival also features a film called

The Last Disciple and the Resurrection of Voldemort

, designed and performed by college students, filled with highly realistic special effects, with a gripping storyline.

“We really thought it would be a crazy idea to modify the building, put mountains around and create characters to go with it,” said director, filmmaker Waleed Akram.

Since the first of seven volumes appeared in 1997, The Adventures of the

Harry Potter

Sorcerer's Apprentice

have enjoyed immense popularity around the world, including Pakistan.

Half a billion copies have been sold worldwide and the saga has been adapted with huge success into the cinema.
