More than 42,000 new cases of Covid-19 contamination have been detected in the past 24 hours and more than 2,000 people are in critical care, according to figures from Public Health France on Sunday.
Precisely 42,252 new cases have been confirmed, after 51,624 on Saturday, according to the health agency.
Over the last seven days (which smooths out the effects of non-working days), the average of new daily cases stands at 42,459, against less than 28,000 a week ago, testifying to the acceleration of this wave.
The positivity rate increases to 6.4% over the last seven consolidated days.
11,526 hospitalized Covid-19 patients
Hospitals are now treating 11,526 patients with Covid-19, with 369 new admissions in 24 hours.
The number of patients hospitalized in critical care stands at 2,066, with 70 admissions in 24 hours.
Regarding vaccination, 52,091,996 people have received at least one injection (77.3% of the total population) and 51,008,382 people are fully vaccinated (75.7% of the total population).
Since December 4, 10,264,369 people have received a booster dose.
The government is convening a Health Defense Council on Monday which will examine the possibility of opening vaccination to 5-11 year olds.
