The Haut-Rhin prefecture on Thursday issued a decree relating to "so-called fireworks and pyrotechnic articles".

The official document prohibits the transport, use, sale, purchase or transfer of these products during the holiday season.

The measure will end at 8 am on January 3, 2022, specifies a press release relayed by

It concerns all the municipalities of the department.

Import prohibited

It is also illegal to import these fireworks and firecrackers from abroad.

The decision was taken in agreement with the association of mayors of Haut-Rhin.

It covers articles in categories C1, F1, C2, F2, C3, F3, C4 and F4.

Prefect Louis Laugier explained the judgment by "the abnormal use of fireworks [...] too often observed".

He referred to "acts of urban violence against the police or against buildings, buildings or vehicles".

The State representative also highlighted the "high level of the terrorist threat" and the "very large number of accidents and serious injuries to the hands and eyes" caused by these products.
