Sexual abuse: the Church of France has recognized its institutional responsibility after the publication of the report of the CIASE (Independent Commission on Sexual Abuse in the Church) or Sauvé report published in early October 2021. It has also decided to create a compensation fund for victims.
According to the CIASE, between 1950 and today, 330,000 people have been abused within the Church, either by priests or pastoral workers.

The bishops followed the recommendations of this commission with, in particular, the introduction of a pastoral code, new rules of conduct for priests, an audit of listening cells for victims.
Some of these measures have already been put in place three years ago by the diocese of Strasbourg, which is a pioneer in the fight against sexual abuse.
