Toyoshi Fuketa, Chairman of the Nuclear Regulation Authority, visited the site to observe the current state of decommissioning work at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, and TEPCO is promoting radioactive materials such as tritium based on national policy. We confirmed the status of studies on the release of treated water containing substances into the sea.

Chairman Fuketa of the Regulatory Commission entered the premises of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant for the first time in a year since October last year, and inspected the reactor building that caused the hydrogen explosion from a hill.

At the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, the amount of treated water from which radioactive substances have been removed as much as possible from the contaminated water generated by the cooling of melted nuclear fuel continues to increase.

Therefore, based on the national policy, TEPCO has announced a plan to dilute the treated water containing radioactive substances such as tritium to a concentration below the standard by the spring of 2023, and then release it from about 1 km offshore of the nuclear power plant. I am.

Chairman Sarada received an explanation from the person in charge of TEPCO about the equipment for diluting the concentration of treated water, and confirmed the planned construction site.

After the inspection, Chairman Fuketa said, "I don't think there is any technical difficulty in releasing treated water with equipment that dilutes the concentration. Rather, it is difficult to gain the understanding of the local community and explain the future plans exactly. That's what you do. "

TEPCO has a policy of compiling a method for reducing the concentration of treated water and an implementation plan for evaluating whether there is any impact on the environment, and applying to the Regulatory Commission.
