Eurosonic Noorderslag (ESNS) will not continue in physical form next month.

Due to the current corona measures, the organization has already decided to let the Groningen festival take place online only.

ESNS is therefore the first major festival of 2022 that cannot continue in the normal way.

According to the organization, not all booked European acts can come to the Netherlands due to the corona crisis.

Also, due to the ever-changing restrictions and uncertainties, ESNS does not want to wait any longer and the festival is going for a fully online edition for the second year in a row.

"ESNS is of great importance to the entire music industry and in particular to Dutch and European musicians. It is therefore essential for the performance of our function, to provide a platform for European pop music, that our event takes place online," says director Dago Houben.

"We saw earlier this year that the reach of a digital edition can be huge and that way we can make a difference to an artist's career."

In addition to the Eurosonic and Noorderslag programs, the Popprijs, the Popstipendium and the Music Moves Europe Awards are also awarded annually at ESNS, which lasts from 19 to 22 January.
