As the fifth wave hits France hard, hospitals are again under very strong pressure.

Some have even reactivated their white plan.

Doctors are alarmed by this new pressure which risks worsening the shortage of caregivers.

The fifth wave is strengthening again and now threatens hospitals.

On Wednesday, almost 50,000 new cases of Covid-19 were identified in France and the milestone of 10,000 hospitalizations linked to Covid was crossed.

Among them, 2,000 are in an intensive care unit.

The situation could quickly become unmanageable.

In Mulhouse and Colmar, the white plan has just been reactivated.

It must be said that this influx of patients comes at the worst time.

White plans reactivated

Between staff shortages and the intense bronchiolitis epidemic, only the fifth wave was missing to bring hospitals to their knees.

In Rennes, Tarbes, Brive ... Small hospitals as well as large CHUs are forced to reactivate the white plans.

Professor Djillali Annane heads the intensive care unit at Raymond-Poincaré hospital in Garches, in Hauts-de-Seine, whose bed occupancy rate has been 100% since Tuesday.

The situation is similar in the infectious disease department.

In total, eight out of ten patients have Covid.

"The window of fire to cushion the fifth wave is closing. If we do not reverse the trend, in three weeks, we will be under an intolerable tension", he is alarmed.

Devastating consequences

This new pressure on the hospital risks having devastating consequences according to Olivier Milleron, cardiologist and spokesperson for the inter-hospital collective: "The people who are there will do as usual. They will do their job and work again. More. But working in these conditions, it damages people because we have the impression of doing our job badly. That's why people leave. "

This new wave therefore risks once again causing the resignations of caregivers, once the white plans are lifted.
