The Gansu Provincial Bureau of Cultural Relics disclosed on December 1 that, with the approval of the State Administration of Cultural Relics, from 2020 to 2021, the Gansu Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology carried out archaeological exploration and excavation at the Geyachuan Site in Zhangjiachuan Hui Autonomous County, Tianshui City, Gansu Province, and the site was unearthed A large number of pottery, stone, jade, bone, etc.

The discovery was shortlisted for the “Archaeological China” major project in the fourth quarter of 2021 by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage.

Archaeology shows that the Geyachuan site lasted from the early stage of the Yangshao culture to the late stage of the Yangshao culture, dating back from 6100 to 5600 years ago.

This is another important archaeological discovery in the Longxi Loess Plateau after the Dadiwan site, confirming that this area, like Guanzhong and Central Plains, is another central area of the Yangshao culture, and has an extremely important position in the origin of Chinese civilization.

The discovery of large-scale grain storage pits and millet relics provides physical data for the study of early Yangshao population agricultural planting, crop processing and storage technology, and human life economy, and is useful for exploring the establishment of millet agriculture after the domestication of millet crops in northern China. Significance.
