The town of Gières (Isère) had a good surprise when it learned that a resident who died last September had made a donation to the city.

The town will soon receive 570,296.55 euros after the resident has made her her sole legatee, reports

.

The mayor had in fact known since August 2021.

Pierre Verri had however wished to carry out verifications with the notary in charge of the succession.

He particularly wanted to ensure that there were no debts before accepting the inheritance.

By doing research on the donor, the elected official discovered that the latter's mother had lived in a residence for the elderly and then in an apartment in Gières.

"It is therefore undoubtedly in memory of her mother that her daughter, without children or family, made this bequest to the community without attaching a particular requirement", he explained.

The bequest could

“Contribute to the finances of CCAS”, the Communal Center for Social Action, added Pierre Verri.

He also announced that a public space could take the name of the generous donor.
