The Île-de-France Regional Health Agency (ARS) published a press release this Thursday morning to confirm that a first case of the Omicron variant has been detected in Île-de-France.

This is a man, aged between 50 and 60, returning from a trip to Nigeria.

Residing in Seine-et-Marne, the traveler tested positive for Covid-19 when he got off the plane on November 25.

According to the ARS Île-de-France, the sequencing of the sample revealed this Wednesday that the individual in question was a carrier of the Omicron variant.

The affected person is not vaccinated

His wife, who accompanied him, also tested positive for Covid-19.

Sequencing is underway to find out if it is also the Omicron variant.

The couple have been in isolation at their home since arriving in France, with a third person living under the same roof who was also tested on Thursday.

The ARS specifies that "none of the three people is vaccinated".
