The Swedish media ethics system must provide the individual with protection against publicity damage in addition to what the law offers.

If you as an individual feel offended or pointed out in a publication, you can report this to the Media Ombudsman who is investigating your case.

The review is then handed over to the Media Ethics Committee, which decides whether to acquit or convict.

In this way, the victim avoids an often expensive and cumbersome legal process, which rarely leads to anything.

But it is voluntary for the media players to be part of the system.

Several major platforms in Sweden, such as Netflix, HBO and Spotify, are excluded and their publications can therefore not be tried.

Nent and Bauer become members

During the autumn, however, the radio and podcast producer Bauer Media and the TV giant Nent have chosen to join the media ethics system.

Bauer has joined the radio channels Mix Megapol and Rockklassiker and is planning the same for Podplay, writes Dagens media.

Anna Rastner, content director, at Bauer says that it is "a question of credibility".

Nent has recently joined Viaplay and Viafree.

This spring, several applications were received against their Paradise hotel program, but these could not be tried.
