The trend is confirmed.

Nearly 50,000 new cases of Covid-19 were recorded in 24 hours, while the fifth epidemic wave continues to sweep over France, according to the latest figures released Wednesday by Public Health France.

49,610 new cases have been confirmed, against 47,177 the day before.

Over the last seven days (which makes it possible to smooth the effects of non-working days) the average of new daily cases stands at 34,547, against a little less than 22,000 a week ago (+ 54%), testifying to the acceleration of this wave.

And it could get worse, with the Omicron variant, deemed "extremely worrying" by the World Health Organization ".

Hospitalizations at the September level

The number of hospitalized patients exceeded 10,000 (10,558) for the second consecutive day (10,249 Tuesday and 9,860 Monday), a threshold that had not been reached since September 12.

There were 992 new admissions in 24 hours, and the number of critically ill patients in critical care units reached 1,886, with 215 admissions in 24 hours.

Since the start of the epidemic at least 119,227 deaths have been recorded.

On the vaccination side, since the start of the campaign, nearly 52 million people have received at least one injection (77.1% of the total population) and almost 51 million have a complete vaccination schedule (75.5% of the total population) .

Since the start of the booster campaign, 8,165,008 people have received a booster dose.

Booster injections have increased sharply since they were opened to all adults at the end of last week: nearly 485,000 people have benefited from them over the past 24 hours.
