The Ministry of Health of the Balearic Islands has confirmed that a woman living in Mallorca who has traveled to the island
from South Africa
is the first confirmed case of contagion of Covid-19 with the omicron variant on the islands.
The microbiology laboratory of the
Son Espases
de Palma
hospital
has verified that the patient has the new variant of the coronavirus, so a tracing of her contacts will be carried out to try to limit the spread of the virus.
The woman, who arrived in Palma from South Africa on Wednesday after making a stopover in Frankfurt,
has been confined with her husband
, who accompanied her on her trip but has tested negative in all diagnostic tests.
The patient has tested positive for coronavirus in
an antigen analysis
carried out at the Son Sant Joan airport and has been transferred to the Son Espases hospital for a PCR test with her partner.
Both had been to South Africa and returned to Europe, with
negative Covid tests
in the previous days, on a flight that landed in Frankfurt.
In the German city, in compliance with the protocol set to try to contain the spread of the variant detected in South Africa, they were again subjected to antigen tests, and
as they tested negative they were allowed to return
to their residence in Mallorca.
