The remains of the stone wall foundation of "Shizuki Fushimi Castle", which was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi but collapsed two years later due to the earthquake, was newly found in a place that was thought to be outside the site. The research institute said that it was a valuable discovery to review the scale and structure of the castle.

"Shizuki Fushimi Castle" was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in Bunroku 3 (1594) during the Azuchi-Momoyama period, but it is also called a "phantom castle" because it collapsed in an earthquake just two years later.

The Kyoto City Buried Cultural Property Research Institute is an excavation survey accompanying the maintenance of JR Momoyama Station in Fushimi Ward, Kyoto City, and a large stone is embedded in a groove about 2 meters wide and about 18 meters long and about 70 cm deep. I found the trace of the foundation of the stone wall.

From the literature, it was thought that this place was the castle town of "Kibatayama Fushimi Castle", which was rebuilt after it collapsed due to the earthquake, and was the place where the daimyo mansion was located.

However, since the trace of the found foundation was destroyed at the intersection with the stone wall of the daimyo mansion, it was found that this time it was part of the foundation of the stone wall of the first built "Shizuki Fushimi Castle". It means that.

Furthermore, the location found is about 100 meters outside the site of "Shizuki Fushimi Castle" that has been considered so far, and the research institute says that it is a valuable discovery to review the scale and structure of the castle.

Yuka Kashiwada, chief researcher of the Kyoto City Buried Cultural Property Research Institute, said, "I thought Shigetsu Fushimi Castle was a simple castle, but there is a possibility that it was a complicated structure with multiple moats and stone walls. It's a discovery to go back and think again. "
