Regarding ammonia, which is expected to be the next-generation fuel for decarbonization, the public and private sectors will work together to start studying to cut the procurement cost by half and make it comparable to natural gas.

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has set up a new working group in December, which is made up of power generation companies and major trading companies, and has decided to start considering cost reductions for ammonia for fuel.

Ammonia is expected to be the next-generation fuel for decarbonization because it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by mixing it with coal and burning it. We plan to increase it to 10,000 tons.

However, since the high procurement cost is an issue, the working group will consider concrete measures to reduce the cost by half and make it comparable to natural gas.

The outcome document of the UN Conference on Climate Change Countermeasures "COP26" held in November included the phrase "accelerate efforts to gradually reduce coal-fired power generation without emission reduction measures" and is global. Since there is a strict eye on coal-fired power generation, we hope that the working group will formulate cost reduction measures by next summer and lead to the spread of ammonia.
