Marina Casal and Andrés Gallardo are celebrating

their

anniversary

, their porcelain designs

are ten years old

.

They were ahead of their time in 2011 by betting on a

handmade product that caught the attention of the press

and since then the Andrés Gallardo brand has only grown.

"It all started with an

impulse loaded with intuition on the part of Andrés," says

Marina.

"He found some

broken porcelain pieces at a flea market

and took them to his land giving them the shape of a pendant," he adds.

It happened in 2010 in the middle of the euro crisis.

Marina and Andrés worked together in the fashion sector

and saw how

creativity was taking a back seat.

It was then that they decided to abandon their jobs and bet on

a design product that was handmade.

"

We started selling at fairs outside of Spain

because the price and the craftsmanship were better understood. Now there is glass jewelry and new materials are being explored, but when we started, it was very striking", clarifies Marina.

Both Marina and Andrés actively participate in the jewelry production process

.

They travel regularly to Portugal where Francisco, the son and grandson of modelers, is, who makes the project economically viable from his workshop.

"

We started by making only large single pieces

and working with Francisco has allowed us to make reproductions and develop more types of products, not just necklaces," says Marina.

In 2014 they started working with leather

, a warm material that contrasts well with porcelain.

They began by introducing the material into jewelry and

ended up making a collection of bags

, where, of course, porcelain is present.

"In the leather it is very difficult to get a sustainable product, but we are taking steps in this regard,

the leather with which we work does not carry any chemicals

in the tanning process", says Marina.

The Andrés Gallardo brand

has more than 20 points of sale outside of Spain

.

It is present in the Asian market where, above all, its miniature rabbits triumph, an animal that for Chinese astrology is an emblem of longevity.

They have an online store and

point of sale since 2008 on Calle San Pedro, 8, in the Las Letras district of Madrid.

"These years we have seen how the mentality of the customer has changed, from knowing us through their multi-brand store, to coming directly to our point of sale when discovering us through social networks.

Currently, direct sales represents almost 60% of our sales, "

adds Marina.

However, despite the success, Marina admits that she did not make a great effort to position the product, "

we have not been especially proactive in marketing or in the face of the press, the truth is that the product has sold itself

."

What balance do you make of these ten years? In these ten years everything has flowed a lot, the brand was very well received from the first minute and nothing has been too complicated for us, everything has been coming without being a puzzle


How are you celebrating the anniversary ?


For the anniversary we have reissued an archive collection with the idea of ​​recovering some of our favorite pieces.

There are 120 pieces with 120 portraits of friends and people who inspire us and who have crossed our path at some point.



What are you working on now?


We continue to reissue pieces for the anniversary that have not yet been released, and we are also preparing the next collection that will be released in summer.

We are going to make smaller pieces given the success of a capsule collection that came out this summer
