Work was done to dispose of the unexploded ammunition found at the time of the Pacific War in Suginami-ku, Tokyo last month.

The unexploded bullets were processed at the site of the parking lot in Izumi 2-chome, Suginami-ku.

The unexploded ordnance was found last month while digging up the roots of a felled ginkgo tree.

According to Suginami Ward, it is a 1-meter-long, 50-kilometer American-made firearm that was probably used in an air raid during the Pacific War.

The processing work began at 9 am after about 50 people from 20 households living within a 40-meter radius from the site were requested to evacuate and the road near the site was closed.

The Ground Self-Defense Force pulled out the fuze in about 30 minutes, and the unexploded ordnance processed was removed from the scene.

Outside the restricted area, nearby residents were watching over the work.

Junyoshi Inoue, Director of the Crisis Management Office in Suginami Ward, said, "I am relieved that the process has been completed successfully. I have caused trouble to the local residents, but I would like to thank them for their cooperation."
