China News Service, Xi’an, November 27 (Alina Cao Qing, Li Tao) The reporter learned from the Shaanxi Foping National Nature Reserve Administration on the 27th that the bureau is conducting resource background investigations and winter Daqingshan work. During the investigation team The team witnessed a giant panda gnawing on the bones of a takin and took precious images.

It is understood that Li Shuiping, a member of the investigation team, and others encountered a giant panda eating takin bones in the core area of the reserve, about ten species before and after.

"When we met the giant panda, it was about 50 meters away from us and was gnawing and chewing. There is no bamboo forest in this large area. What can it eat? It tastes so delicious?" Li Shuipi told reporters that the giant panda was holding it. Chewing wildly with bones more than a foot long.

"After it found us, it hesitated for a while, dropped the bone in its left hand, walked slowly uphill, and disappeared into the forest."

Shaanxi Foping National Nature Reserve is the first reserve in the Qinling Mountains to protect wild pandas and their forest ecosystems.

This is the second video record of a giant panda eating meat in the Foping Nature Reserve.

The last time a giant panda ate the takin bones was recorded in November 2014.

In the past, when the staff in the reserve analyzed panda feces samples, they also found that some of the feces samples contained undigested residues of other animals.

In a stool sample, there are nearly 20 large and small bone residues.

There is also a fecal sample, which is off-white, with very few bamboo bites, and its appearance is very similar to the feces of large carnivores.

According to reports, the giant panda is classified as belonging to the Ursidae of the order Carnivora.

In the long process of evolution, in order to adapt to the changes in climate and habitat environment in geological history, the diet was changed and specialized in bamboo. However, the structure of the digestive system of giant pandas still retains the characteristics of carnivorous ancestors.

Li Sheng, a researcher at Peking University and a member of the Bear Expert Group of the World Conservation Union (IUCN), said that although it is difficult to directly kill other animals for food, in many areas such as the Qinling Mountains, Minshan Mountains, Qionglai Mountains, there are research records of wild animals. Pandas occasionally "fight their teeth", mainly to feed on animal remains.

The role and significance of such behaviors and supplementation of animal food for wild pandas requires further in-depth research in the future.

It is reported that in the 13 field investigation working days since the launch of this comprehensive investigation, the investigation team has collected 130 panda feces, witnessed 8 panda entities (times), and extracted 97 fresh activity traces of pandas. , Discovered the activities of various wild animals such as Sichuan golden monkey, leopard, takin, forest musk deer, Chinese hyena, black bear, yellow-throated mink, wild boar and so on.
