In June, after a truck crashed into a line of elementary school students in Yachimata City, Chiba Prefecture, killing and injuring five children, the Police Agency installed traffic lights and pedestrian crossings at about 1,900 particularly dangerous school routes nationwide. We are going to take safety measures such as doing so.

In June, a drunk driving truck crashed into a line of elementary school students on their way home from school in Yachimata City, Chiba Prefecture, killing and injuring five people, including two.

In response to the accident, the National Police Agency and others inspected school routes nationwide, and found that there were 10,000 places that needed countermeasures, such as installing new push-button traffic lights, repairing existing traffic lights, and maintaining signs. It means that more than one place has been confirmed.

The National Police Agency has decided to add 600 million yen to the supplementary budget for this year, saying that about 1900 of these areas need immediate attention.

At the intersection near a high school in Saku City, Nagano Prefecture, we are changing the current traffic light to one that does not cross right or left cars when pedestrians are crossing at the green light.

The National Police Agency says, "We would like to consider effective measures that correspond to the actual conditions of the region and implement them as soon as possible."
