South Korea is studying to stop eating dog meat!

South Korea announced Thursday that it will form a working group to study the possibility of a ban on eating dog meat, after the country's president called for an end to the centuries-old practice.

The move came after South Korean President Moon Jae-in, himself a dog lover, said the traditional practice must be halted to avoid international embarrassment.

Dog meat is a major part of South Korean cuisine, as it is believed that the country consumes about one and a half million dogs annually, although consumption has decreased significantly over the past years.

And a number of South Koreans consider dogs to be pets that deserve attention and care, not food.

And according to the British newspaper, “Daily Mail”, government offices, including the Ministry of Agriculture, have formed a working group to provide recommendations on banning the consumption of dog meat.

She explained that the task of the work team is to collect information about dog farms, restaurants and other facilities, as well as to know what people think of this step.

The working group is composed of officials, civilian experts and people from relevant organizations.

In addition to South Korea, dog meat is a delicacy in North Korea, China and Vietnam.
