In the alleged kidnapping case of young Eitan, the only survivor of the fatal gondola accident in northern Italy, the police took action against a suspect.

The alleged accomplice of Eitan's maternal grandfather was arrested on Thursday in Limassol in southern Cyprus, reported the Italian newspaper "Corriere della Sera".

When asked, the police in Cyprus confirmed that a 50-year-old man had been arrested in a hotel there on account of a European arrest warrant and that this was in connection with the kidnapping of a minor on September 11, 2021.

The public prosecutor's office in Pavia, Italy, also announced that it was the alleged accomplice wanted in the Eitan case.

The man was located on the basis of his cell phone data.

The maternal grandfather is said to have brought the boy from Italy to Israel with the help of an accomplice, contrary to a court order.

The two ex-soldiers are said to have rented a car to take the boy to Switzerland, from where they are said to have taken a private flight to Tel Aviv.

Eitan was the only one to survive the fatal cable car accident on Monte Mottarone, west of Lake Maggiore, in May.

14 people were killed at the time, including Eitan's parents, great-grandparents and his little brother.

He then came to live with his paternal aunt, Aya Biran-Nirko, in the Italian city of Pavia.

As a result, a custody battle broke out with the relatives on her mother's side in Israel.

After Eitan was brought to Israel, local courts ruled in two instances that Eitan should be brought back to Italy.

The case is currently being dealt with by the Supreme Court.

However, it is only about the boy's temporary whereabouts.

A case for his guardianship is pending in Milan and is expected to continue on December 1st.
