With our special correspondent in Marrakech,

Gwen Rakotovao's dance reflects her multiple identities.

Born in France, she returned from a ten-year stay in New York interrupted by the pandemic.

The young choreographer and dancer tries to reconnect in her piece

Fitiavana

with her Malagasy origins.

Fitiavana means" love "in Malagasy.

The theme of the play is to translate love on stage through a story, my story.

Everything is inside of me.

It is about letting myself go, allowing myself to be "Malagasy" and therefore use the essence of what I am.

 "

With an assertive and gentle presence at the same time, the loose movement, arms spreading out like lianas, Gwen Rakotovao with a slender body and quiet strength captures the attention.

She draws from the depths of her Malagasy culture and takes us on a journey between the sustained rhythm of Africa and the gestural subtleties of Asia, all enhanced by the elegance of classical dance, her initial training.

A solo of great beauty.
