The Mediterranean Infection University Hospital Institute in Marseille on Tuesday started the process of selecting a new director, to succeed Professor Didier Raoult, by appointing Louis Schweitzer, the former boss of Renault, at the head of "the commission selection ”and by announcing an international call for candidates.

Meeting "in a serene and constructive climate", the board of directors of the IHU Méditerranée Infection "unanimously proposed the appointment of Mr. Louis Schweitzer as president of the selection commission", specified the Institute in a press release sent to AFP, specifying that a "call for candidates will soon be published in international journals".

No date given

"The board of directors also unanimously approved the profile of the candidacy drawn up by the scientific and strategic council of the IHU", insisted the press release, signed by Yolande Obadia, the president of the Fondation Méditerranée Infection, in stressing that this council "will be an integral part of the selection committee".

On the other hand, no date is given for the entry into office of Professor Raoult's successor.

Retired August 31

On September 17, the six founding members of the Institute had already announced the establishment of "a recruitment commission and an international call for tenders", specifying that the objective was to find a replacement for Didier Raoult d 'here "June 30 at the latest, for taking up a post by September 30 at the latest".

Accused in particular of "charlatanism" by some of his peers, for having promoted a treatment of Covid with hydroxychloroquine without scientific validation, Didier Raoult, retired since August 31 as a university professor-hospital practitioner, should therefore remain at the head of the IHU for a few more months.

On September 10, he explained that he thought he would stay at the helm of the Institute, which he had founded in 2011, for another year or so, affirming that "you don't change a director like that".

"Turn a page"

In August, in the columns of the daily

, the new director-general of Public Assistance-Hospitals of Marseille (AP-HM), François Crémieux, had told him of the "need to turn a page and organize the 'future of the IHU for the next twenty years'.

"He arrives to clean and I am one of the objects he would like to clean", reacted Professor Raoult, in an interview with CNews, claiming to pay his criticisms of the management of the Covid-19 epidemic by the 'AP-HP and its president, Martin Hirsch, of which Crémieux had been the deputy.
