If you've walked the streets of Paris recently, you've probably seen signs, fences or other deviations specific to a construction site.

And to believe Pierre Chasseray, the media defender of motorists, Friday, November 19 on CNews, "all the work is launched at the same time now" in Paris.

Pierre Chasseray: “These works are well suited to the town hall of Paris, because all the works are launched at the same time.

There are currently 7,000 jobs in the capital ”, in #LaMatinale pic.twitter.com/yKpPMmyvHR

“In the capital, there are 7,000 jobs that have been launched and that you all undergo on a daily basis!

[…] It smells like traffic jams very strongly for Parisian motorists, we will have to do something ”, continued the general delegate of the association 40 Millions of motorists.

A questioning of Anne Hidalgo who intervenes against a background of mobilization of her opponents on social networks via the hashtag #SaccageParis.

But is this estimate by Pierre Chasseray close to reality?

Contacted by

, Pierre Chasseray indicates that he relied, as a source, on figures from the town hall of Paris, and tried to reach the municipality on Thursday, November 18, without being given a more precise answer.

“Before the Covid-19 crisis, the city had counted 6,087 work zones and she explained that since then there had been a slight increase in work - not necessarily ordered by the city of Paris, moreover - due to the delay taken during confinement, ”he explains.

More precisely, in June 2021, Jacques Baudrier, the deputy mayor of Paris in charge of "the coordination of work on public space", acknowledged to the

the possibility of "a small catching-up effect for concessionaires' sites (maintenance of water, gas, district heating, telephone networks) due to delays taken during periods of confinement" - while indicating that " overall, we remain on a number of sites identical to that of previous years for this period of the year.

"

Around 6,000 sites as of November 18, 2021

What was it on November 18, 2021?

On its page dedicated to construction site news, the Paris town hall details the places in which the work is carried out, as well as their distribution by type of site.

At that date, there were 6,708 of them, mainly relating to “construction or rehabilitation of a building” (3,480), and followed, in second place, by “work on the electrical network” (833).

, the city of Paris indicates that there were more precisely 6,835 "rights-of-way", "including 562 from the city of Paris (or 8.2%)" and that this figure "changes every day".

“On the map […] also appear the sites completed for less than 15 days, the time that the installations still in place physically are removed.

In this case, 1,018 site rights-of-way ended during the fortnight preceding November 18, 2021. The actual theoretical figure to date on November 18 is therefore [rather] 5,817 ”, adds the municipality, stressing that the data visible on this map are therefore "10 to 15% higher than the theoretical real".

A fairly stable total over the years

These figures are in line with those of previous years, such as the order of magnitude advanced by Pierre Chasseray on CNews: in mid-2019, the city thus recorded 7,000 projects in progress (while promising an improvement by the end of summer).

Asked by

20 Minutes

on the expected evolution of the number of works planned in the coming months, the municipality counts, by February 28, 2022, the launch of 542 rights-of-way of the city of Paris and the end of 641 others.

We find, over the same deadline, a similar ratio for the works of network operators (3,563 new rights-of-way against 2,925 purposes) and, conversely, a significant decrease on the side of “private third-party works”, with the conclusion of 2,974 rights-of-way for only 535 new ones.
