Beauvais (Oise) bought this Saturday the replica of the four-meter-high Eiffel Tower built on its territory, Mayor Caroline Cayeux announced on Twitter.

The municipality spent 6,800 euros to become the owner during auctions organized on site.

The starting price was 1,500 euros but there were many collectors interested in the object, says France 3 Hauts-de-France.

Very happy to announce that @villedebeauvais won the auction for the #Beauvais Eiffel Tower replica!

This piece of history will therefore remain in our city and will be installed in the public space.

The building built at the end of the 19th century in the Marissel district has since been an immutable and symbolic institution for the Beauvaisiens.

Initially built to mark the opening of a guinguette café, in front of which it had been erected, this miniature Eiffel Tower then changed ownership.

A planned refurbishment

It was then transferred to the Voisinlieu district in 1924. Today, the replica is damaged by years and oxidation.

The town hall intends to carry out its renovation.

The objective is to be able to present it to the inhabitants of the city on the occasion of the end of year celebrations.
