Judicial action against Naguib Sawiris over the crisis of festival singers
An Egyptian lawyer filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor in Egypt, against businessman Naguib Sawiris, on charges of inciting noncompliance with laws and regulations in Egypt, against the background of criticism. Sawiris rejected the Musicians’ Syndicate’s decision to suspend 19 festival performers.
And lawyer Ayman Mahfouz considered in his communication that what Naguib Sawiris is doing is a crime punishable by law, and Mahfouz added that the artist performs a message to the public and society, and this artist should not appear in an inappropriate manner and appearance.
In a tweet, Sawiris criticized the decision of the "musical professions", regarding the suspension of 19 festival singers, and said: "The first time I see a captain of singers very proud of banning singing, the audience is the one who decides who hears and what is heard, not the captain.
The union headed by artist Hani Shaker responded to Sawiris' statements, after describing the union as a "singers' union."
The Syndicate’s media spokesman, Tariq Mortada, published a statement in which he said: “A clarification from the Syndicate of Musical Professions, commenting on Brother Naguib Sawiris. First, its name is the Syndicate of Musical Professions, and not the Syndicate of Singers, as you know or do not know, so it must be clarified.”
He added: “Secondly, these are not members of the union, and whoever wants to belong to it submits his papers in accordance with the law to pass the exams.
Third, membership has conditions and duties, including commitment to behavior that does not contradict values and morals.
He continued: “The role of the syndicate is to regulate what is happening on the musical scene, not to prevent it, provided that he is a member or authorized by the law.
You hear them in private, and this is your right, but do not impose it on the public without the procedures and regulations regulating the singing profession.”
And he said, "Finally, Brother Najib, the union's money is public money and wasting it is a waste of public money, and you can adopt them all and see them at the upcoming El Gouna festival."
It is noteworthy that the Syndicate of Musical Professions in Egypt, headed by artist Hani Shaker, issued a decision to suspend 19 festival singers, and to withdraw their annual singing permits due to the lack of legalization of their conditions in the Syndicate during the last period.
