Plans The five most desired spas in Spain to get soaked
A
bottle of muscatel
and a few generous chunks of guirlache nougat greet the visitor as soon as they enter the door.
It is not the most common welcome in an Arab bath, but this,
Hammam Al Ándalus,
located on Madrid's
Atocha street
, just a few steps from Puerta del Sol, is not either.
To begin with, it is the only
of the capital built on the remains of a vaulted cistern of the
Muslim Mayrit,
more than four centuries old.
To continue, its architecture and history make it
one of the most beautiful in Spain
.
And to close, each time of the year surprises with a relaxing treatment (how else?) With cultural overtones.
The protagonist of this autumn-winter is
Francisco de Goya
(hence the traditional moment of Muscat and Guirlache), who has served as inspiration for «an experience that aims to take us
back to childhood
and recover the feeling of freedom, innocence and happiness of those years ”, explains the host Rosa María Castilla, dressed as a
maja from the Court of Carlos III.
The muscatel and the guirlache that welcome.
The plan will remain until next
January 16
in the Madrid offshoot of the
Hammam Al Ándalus group
, which has four others spread throughout Spain: in Granada (considered one of the most beautiful thermal baths in the world), Córdoba (declared a World Heritage Site Unesco),
Malaga
and Palma de Mallorca.
Everyone's goal is to reinterpret the old Arab baths in a contemporary way.
The painting 'El columpio' by Goya welcomes the visitor.
The capital's proposal starts in front of a gigantic mobile screen mounted in the welcome hall that reproduces
Goya's
swing
,
present in the
Prado Museum
and that represents "a family that has gone out to the countryside to have fun", as the author himself left written.
"This painting is perfect for going
back to childhood
and advancing what comes next," Castilla continues.
Next to the screen, a seesaw hangs from the ceiling.
Visitors sit there before starting to perform the

You have to choose an essence: amber, violet, pink or lavender.
One of the hot springs of the Madrid hammam.
You would be ready to start the treatment, which delves into the
blue skies
of Madrid, the same ones that the painter so often captured in his first stage works, such as
El columpio
.
Its choice as an inspirational motif is due to the
#InGoya
exhibition
at
the
Fernán Gómez
cultural center
.

.
And before that, to the Japanese artist
Mika Murakami
, with an original sculpture of her included.
Moment of massage and palette with essential oils.
The current proposal combines
45 minutes of Arab bath and 45 of massage
and begins with a floatation session in one of the three existing hot springs, the hot water (
bayt as-sajun
).
Then there would be the warm (
bayt al-bastani
) and the cold (
bayt al-barid
).
"You just have to let yourself go,"
one of the physiotherapists quietly lets out, waiting in the water, covering her up to the waist.
Afterwards, he goes to the
treatment room
, where again he is asked to choose an essential oil, cinnamon or lemon, both poured on a
palette of watercolors.
Moment of massage in the 'hammam'.
With them, the specialist massages the client's body "as if the skin were a canvas on which to draw
a sky of sensations"
, she confesses after the experience while serving tea in the
relaxation area

Test passed: back to childhood (and to the most simplistic happiness) achieved in spades.
