The strike at France 24, which started on Thursday, November 18, will continue at least until the next general assembly, Monday, November 22, despite management's proposals.

This strike is a continuation of several weeks of social protest within the world news channel which is part of France Médias Monde (FMM) just like RFI.

At France 24, the fire had been smoldering for weeks.

At the beginning of November, a motion of no confidence had been voted against the majority of the members of the management.

The strikers protest in particular against aggressive management methods and denounce the failure to respect rest times and demand the right to disconnect.

Salary revaluation

Employees are asking for a revaluation of wages, less opacity on the pay grids as well as a plan to reduce precariousness.

The management has promised to reduce the number of freelancers to 20% of the workforce against 32% currently and to hire 50.

France 24

is made up of four global 24-hour news channels (in French, English, Arabic and in Spanish) which are watched by more than 98 million viewers with programs 24 hours a day, seven days a week on five continents.

A "

malaise

 " recognized by management

The director of France 24, Vanessa Burggraf, recognized this "

discomfort

".

She recalled that the budget of France media world was lower by "

100 million

" than that of its equivalent to the BBC and Deutsche Welle, while the youngest French sometimes exceeds them in audiences.
