China News Service, Zhengzhou, November 20th. Title: How to prevent and control the alien species that the Canadian Solidago invaded many places attracting attention?

China News Agency reporter Li Guigang

The recent discovery of Solidago canadensis in Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Changsha and other places has aroused people's attention to the invasion and prevention of alien species.

In the "List of China's Second Batch of Invasive Alien Species" published in 2010, Solidago canadensis is listed. It is native to North America and has a flowering period from July to November.

The list shows that Solidago canadensis was introduced as an ornamental plant in 1935, and it has harmed the ecosystem in Zhejiang, Shanghai, Anhui, Hubei, Jiangxi and other places.

Right now, it is the time when Solidago canadensis blooms.

According to media reports, recently, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Changsha, Kaifeng and other places have "encircled and suppressed" Solidago canada during its flowering period.

Because of the saying that "the yellow flower goes everywhere, the grass does not grow", the Canadian goldenrod has become "a mouse crossing the street, everyone shouts and beats."

Li Jiamei, director of the China Wild Plant Conservation Association, national natural science fund project review expert, and professor of the College of Life Sciences of Henan Agricultural University, said in an interview with a reporter from China News Agency on the 20th that the invasion of alien species will have a certain adaptation period, from the incubation period to the expansion period. It will take about 10 to 20 years to reach the outbreak period.

Judging from the situation found in various places, the incubation period of Solidago canadensis has passed, and the outbreak period is about to be reached, which is the best time for extinction.

Speaking of the situation of "everyone shouting to fight", Li Jiamei believes that from the current point of view, Solidago canadensis is only distributed in Henan's wetlands and other places with frequent artificial activities, and it has not yet caused any harm to Henan's food crops.

"The public should take a rational view of invasive alien species such as Solidago canadensis. There is no need to panic, let alone demonize. Henan is still in a controllable range and can be eliminated in the bud. If it reaches the outbreak period, it will be difficult to eliminate."

According to the Bulletin of the State of China’s Ecological Environment in 2020, more than 660 invasive alien species have been discovered nationwide, of which 71 have caused or have potential threats to the natural ecosystem and have been included in the "List of Invasive Alien Species in China", and 219 have been Invaded a national nature reserve.

The reporter combed and found that many experts believed that the invasion of foreign species such as solidago can not only harm agricultural production, but also affect the ecological environment, so we should be vigilant.

Take Henan as an example. In recent years, there have mainly been invasive alien plants such as Solidago canadensis, water peanut, and yellow crested chrysanthemum.

In an interview with China News Agency reporters, Ru Guangxin, a forestry expert and director of the Three-Agriculture Committee of the Henan Provincial Committee of the People’s Revolution of China, and a professor at the College of Forestry of Henan Agricultural University, said that the public should treat alien species dialectically, such as grapes and corn, which are commonly grown in China today. These are all alien species, and they have brought many benefits to people after they were introduced.

However, in dealing with invasive species or species that have a destructive impact on the ecological environment, we should maintain a high degree of vigilance, and we should also attach great importance to how to prevent and control, conduct risk assessment and monitoring in a timely manner, and seize the necessary opportunity to carry out manual intervention and eradication to prevent uncontrollable situations.

So, how to prevent invasive alien species?

Some experts suggest that quarantine control should be strengthened from entry.

Wang Qirui, director of the Institute of Urban Forestry and Environment, Henan Academy of Forestry, proposed to establish a risk assessment mechanism for exotic plants.

Li Jiamei believes that in the prevention and treatment, attention should be paid to popular science propaganda, so that the public can find out in time, report it in time, and eliminate it in time.

Regarding the prevention and control of invasive alien species, in February this year, the "Supplementary Provisions of the Supreme People's Court and the Supreme People's Procuratorate on the Implementation of the Criminal Law of the People's Republic of China" to determine the crime (7) stipulated the crime of illegally introducing, releasing, and discarding invasive alien species.
