The government has decided to establish a system in which users are responsible for adding maintenance costs for making railway stations barrier-free to the fare.

Assuming introduction in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, we expect to add up to 10 yen per ride.

Among railway stations, stations with relatively few users have not been made barrier-free, such as elevators and platform doors to prevent falls, and as a result of examination by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, the railway company has set the fare. We have decided to establish a system to increase the cost and have the user bear it.

The area is assumed to be the three major metropolitan areas of Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya, and from January next year, we will accept notifications from railway companies that wish to introduce it, and we would like to start it again next spring.

The maximum amount to be added to the fare is expected to be 10 yen per ride, but due to the burden on the household budget, the additional amount is exempted from the school commuter pass.

Regarding making stations barrier-free, it has been pointed out that it is unfair for all users to bear the maintenance cost of some stations by adding fares, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism has made public comments soliciting opinions from users. We will carefully proceed with the operation of the system, such as doing so.

Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Saito said, "Securing financial resources is a major issue, and we would like users to understand the" thin and wide burden. "
