An English Premier League club, a New York rabbi and Kim Kardashian… It sounds like the beginning of a joke, and yet it is thanks to this surprising association that the members of a women's football club in Afghanistan have managed to flee the country.

As relayed by CBS, a plane chartered by the reality TV star was able to transport the 30 players and their families, or 130 people in total, who were able to flee the Taliban regime and land near London.

Andrea Radrizzani, majority shareholder of the club Leeds United, shared the news on Twitter, congratulating himself, in caption of a photo of the crowd at the airport, to have been able to "be part of the team which made it possible to turn that dream into reality.

One day, they might be able to play for (Leeds) ”.

Rabbi Moshe Margaretten revealed on the social network that it was Kim Kardashian who had wanted "to finance the theft."

Not allowed

The evacuation of female athletes from Afghanistan was made vital with the return to power of the Taliban.

The regime considers that women “do not need” to play sports and therefore that they are not allowed to do so.

Asked by AFP, Khalida Popal, ex-captain of the Afghan national team, was delighted that the evacuation went as planned.

“Many of these families left their homes when the Taliban took power.

Their houses were burnt down.

Some of their family members have been killed or kidnapped by the Taliban.

The danger and the stress were therefore very high, and that is why it was very important to act quickly to get them out of Afghanistan, ”she explained.

Kim Kardashian has yet to react to the news on her social media.
