Fodder that reduces cows' belching of methane...will be released in Europe soon

A feed additive that reduces the methane gas released by cows when they burps is a step closer to being sold in Europe, and methane is a major contributor to agricultural emissions, Bloomberg News reported.

The European Union's food watchdog said the "Bouvar" product, produced by the Dutch company "Royal DSM", is safe and effective for dairy cows.

The agency was not asked to determine whether the feed was at safe levels for other categories such as cows intended for meat production.

Europe is the world's second largest milk producer, and Poovar has already been certified for meat and dairy cattle, along with sheep and goats in Chile and cows in Brazil.

The agricultural sector is facing more pressure to become more environmentally friendly, as governments and investors focus on reducing global warming, and facing methane emissions is one of the most important climate challenges for agriculture.
