The husband and wife have been "island owners" for the past two decades...

He has lived on the stilts in the lake for 23 years, and the treadmill is his only entertainment...

Wuhu Lake, located in Huangpi District, Wuhan City, is the World Wildlife Fund Wetland Nature Reserve and the national-level aquatic germplasm resource protection area of yellow catfish.

On this 46,000 acres of water, a two-story stilted building stands in the middle of the water-this is the home of Wang Ruixue and Hu Haiying.

To reach the Diaojiaolou from the shore, it takes about 8 minutes by speedboat.

Wang Ruixue is 45 years old and has dark skin. He is one of the four members of the Wuhu Lake Patrol Team.

In 1996, when he was young, he came to Wuhan Wuhu Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. as a lake patroller. At that time, the conditions were difficult. The lake patroller could only "take the boat as his home" to protect the fishery resources.

In 1998, the company built a stilt building for the patrol team in the waters of Wuhu Lake. Wang Ruixue has lived here for 23 years.

In 2004, his wife Hu Haiying also came to the Diaojiaolou, responsible for the logistics of the lake patrol team.

This stilt building is supported by 12 load-bearing columns. It has a kitchen, a bathroom, several bedrooms, and simple electrical appliances such as TVs and refrigerators. A treadmill placed in the corner is out of place.

"There is no place to exercise in the Diaojiaolou, so I bought a treadmill and walked briskly for 30 minutes a day, just like a walk."

Wang Ruixue said.

He rarely went ashore because he was worried that criminals would take the opportunity to fish.

The signal in the stilted building is not good, and this treadmill has almost become Wang Ruixue's only entertainment.

On December 31, 2018, Wuhu implemented a comprehensive arrest ban.

The lake patrol team has new work content-

ban on catching duty, ecological restoration, and lake surface cleaning

.

Wang Ruixue realized more and more that patrolling the lake was more of a responsibility.

He and his teammates drive a speedboat and patrol the lake 3-4 times a day, each time spending at least 3 hours to check whether there are ground cages, trash, electric fish, and wire nets.

Even at night, I have to patrol the lake every few hours

When he is not out of the boat, Wang Ruixue will hold a telescope to observe the shoreline of the lake, and record the weather, wind force, control matters, etc. of the day in a notebook.

"

We haven't slept for a whole night in so many years. Sometimes we patrol the lake at 9 o'clock, sometimes at 1 and 2 o'clock in the morning, and the time is uncertain. We can't let the fishermen master the law of patrolling the lake.

" Wang Ruixue said.

Before the Wuhu ban, fishermen were rampant. Wang Ruixue was threatened and smashed by bricks.

Nowadays, citizens’ awareness of ecological protection is getting stronger, and the number of fishing thief is greatly reduced. Once encountered, Wang Ruixue persuades: “

We are a national-level protection zone for yellow catfish, and all fishing is prohibited!

Speaking of her family, Wang Ruixue said frankly that due to work,

she occasionally went ashore to visit the children and the elderly only on weekends

,

and

owed them a lot. "The child is sixteen or seventeen, so I only took her to Enshi and Yichang once for a tour."

Speaking of Wuhu, Wang Ruixue is very proud.

The Wuhu Lake 25 years ago was full of water and weeds; now, illegal fishing has been effectively curbed, and the water quality is maintained at Grade III.

In addition to yellow catfish, there are also a variety of aquatic germplasm resources, such as group head bream, octopus, and Chinese soft-shelled turtle.

Fish leaped up from the blue waves from time to time, and flocks of waterbirds flew across the water with ease.

The stilt building facing the water is like a tiny "island" in the center of Wuhu Lake.

Wang Ruixue and Hu Haiying laughed and called it a "lake-view room", "like living in a painting."

They recalled that one winter the surface of the lake froze, and the surface of the lake shone brightly under the sun...

"It is so worthwhile to stick to it for more than 20 years and devote youth to the lake." Wang Ruixue said.
