In this return and ahead of an election year, France Inter remains the most listened to radio station in France ahead of RTL, which narrows its gap, while Franceinfo climbs to the third step of the podium, according to figures published Thursday by Médiamétrie.

Over the September-October period, the radios as a whole gathered 40.6 million listeners, a loss of around 263,000 listeners compared to a year earlier.

A situation less degraded than in spring

The situation is however less degraded than in spring when the radio media had recorded its lowest audience level with 39.06 million listeners.

Compared to this period disrupted by health restrictions, the radio regained 1.6 million listeners.

France Inter retains its rank of the most listened to station in the country, won in 2019 with a cumulative audience of 11.9%, down 0.6 point compared to last year but up 0.6 point compared to at the last Médiamétrie measurement in April-June.

“I am delighted that France Inter remains the number one radio station in France.

This means that it is the radio station for all French people regardless of their place of residence, their origin and their age, ”reacted Laurence Bloch, director of the station.

Franceinfo confirms its take-off

RTL, in second position, posted a cumulative audience of 10.7% also slowing down compared to last year at the same period (-0.4 point) but reduced its gap with its great public rival by increasing by 0.7 point compared to spring.

RTL wins 700,000 listeners on this wave ”, welcomed Régis Ravanas, general manager of audio activities of the M6 ​​group.

Franceinfo confirms its take-off, already marked in the spring, and takes third place in the ranking with 9% audience increase over one year (+0.2 points).

“Franceinfo has had its best comeback in 16 years.

We are consolidating our position as the third radio station in France and are making progress on all indicators, ”commented its director Jean-Philippe Baille.

NRJ is in fourth position, down 0.8 points in one year with 8.4% cumulative audience, but remains stable compared to the last wave.

This Médiamétrie survey is based on 21,133 people surveyed for the listening period from Monday to Friday, carried out between August 30 and October 31, 2021 among the population aged 13 and over, representative of the French population.
