The film was co-produced by the Hunan Provincial Federation of Trade Unions, Xiaoxiang Film Group, Hunan Daily Cultural Tourism Group and Hunan Yinxing Culture Communication Co., Ltd., with Deng Chuwei as the screenwriter and director, and director Hu Mei as the supervisor.

  The film tells the story of the dire straits of the Shuikoushan miners in the 1920s in order to fight for the workers' basic right to survive, launching a massive strike and achieving complete victory, and establishing an armed force of workers in the struggle.

The film hopes to awaken the red memory of the labor movement through the storytelling of this period of history, and show the working class's political nature of loyalty to the party, pioneering and innovative background, and high-spirited struggle.

  The film "Eight Hundred Miners Going to Jinggang" strives for true feelings in terms of story and character construction. To this end, the main creative team has an in-depth experience of life and visits and collections. From the conception of the story in 2017 to the 11th draft revision and finalization in November 2021, the script creation is long 4 years old.

The film’s producer Deng Zehui said that "Eight Hundred Miners Going to Jinggang" strives to create a new era theme movie with profound thoughts, exquisite art and excellent production in a novel way of presentation, telling the red story well and sustaining the red gene.
