takes stock of this unclear situation within the mayor of Menton.

" I do not understand. I have been in politics for 40 years. First in Paris, then for twenty years on the Côte d'Azur and I really didn't think I could see that ”. Since Yves Juhel, the former second deputy of Menton, was elected mayor by 18 votes to 17, on November 9 following the death of Jean-Claude Guibal, the situation is explosive. According to Sandra Paire, the other candidate to succeed the former deputy, the vast majority of elected officials resigned, paving the way for a new call to the polls of the Mentonnais. Yves Juhel ensures for his part to have recorded only one admissible mail.

Worse, Mayor LR filed a complaint for theft of documents.

According to him, offices would have been entirely emptied according to “thug methods”: “On Monday evening, there were files everywhere and Tuesday at the beginning of the afternoon, just after my election, everything had disappeared”.

The city council even ordered an audit of the entire computer system "to secure the only data that remains", he assures

.

In an "open letter" published Monday, he denounces these "actions making it impossible to continue public service" and calls into question "each elected member" who "will be responsible in the eyes of the population for this state of affairs".

Sandra Paire, she also announces to have filed a complaint "for defamatory remarks".

One more voice with the six opposition votes

"Nothing has disappeared since all the files are computerized," she explains to

. Tuesday afternoon, the former first assistant to Jean-Claude Guibal also asked the new mayor "to transmit to the prefect the twenty-one resignations he received within 24 hours". Otherwise, it will seize the services of the State.

According to Sandra Paire, since the vote, there have been twenty-one resignations out of the 35 members of the municipal council, because the new mayor would have been… badly elected. She thus supports the fact that Yves Juhel only obtained one vote more than she benefited from the six votes of the opposition group “Menton tomorrow”. "It is difficult, among the elected representatives of the majority, to say that we will have to continue working under these conditions", argues the elected LR, also regional councilor.

Except that Yves Juhel assures to have received only one letter of resignation "in a legal and official manner" that he "will forward to the prefect [this Wednesday morning]". For the other defections announced by Sandra Paire, the new mayor remains unclear. And indicates that he will meet the chief of staff of the prefect to monitor the situation. It could be based on the texts which provide that "the letter of resignation must be drafted in unambiguous terms and not have been signed under duress". For the moment, on the page devoted to the municipal council on the city's website, only eighteen elected officials are mentioned. “These are only those who stayed on election day. An update will be made as soon as the situation is clarified ”, indicates a spokesperson for the municipality;

Eight more members not yet elected on Jean-Claude Guibal's list

Asked, the prefecture confirmed Tuesday that it had not yet received any resignations.

And recalls the procedure to follow: “The mayor must immediately send a full copy of the letters of resignation in application of the provisions of the General Code of Local Authorities.

If more than a third of the seats are vacant, it will be necessary to organize a full by-election ”,“ within three months ”.

With a clarification: "All vacations will be recorded when it will no longer be possible to call on a following list on [that] led by Mr. Guibal".

It still has eight people who can join the city council in the event of resignations.

State services are monitoring the situation closely.

At the same time, justice has been seized.

The public prosecutor of Nice confirms at
