More than two and a half years after an abuse scandal involving a speech therapist in Würzburg, the police have identified 53 suspects.

The public prosecutor's office in Bamberg told the German press agency that their personal details are known and the complex has now been completed.

"The allegations are in all cases of possession or distribution of child pornographic content," said Chief Public Prosecutor Thomas Goger from the Central Cybercrime Bavaria Office.

Details on the individual cases could not be communicated.

In March 2019, the police arrested the Würzburg speech therapist on suspicion of abuse.

The man had by then been respected in the city and even been honored for his services.

In May 2020, the district court of Würzburg sentenced the then 38-year-old to eleven years and four months in prison in one of the largest abuse trials in Bavaria.

The German had sexually assaulted physically and / or mentally disabled boys for years - for example at his work in daycare centers and in his practice.

The victims were between two and six years old.

The speech therapist had partially filmed the attacks on the children and distributed the abuse videos online, so the investigators discovered him.

Police seized almost 23,000 files with abuse content in his apartment.

Using this data, among other things, the investigators succeeded in identifying other suspects.

Quite a few of them live abroad.

Such proceedings were handed over to the public prosecutor's offices there, for example in Switzerland, Austria, France, Belgium and Italy.
