The reintroduction program for white-tailed eagles in the Lake Geneva region (Haute-Savoie) is on track.

"The goal is that in July 2022, the first eagles born here will return to populate the Lake Geneva basin," Jacques-Olivier Travers, project manager, explained to France 3 Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.

The owner of the Aigles du Léman park has proceeded in stages.

It all started with the first administrative procedures started some fifteen years ago with the prefecture of Haute-Savoie.

Once the necessary authorizations had been obtained, the work of the specialists could begin.

It resulted in the arrival of several pairs of white-tailed eagles in the animal park in July 2021. The eagles were installed in very specific aviaries.

"Double nest" aviaries

They offer birds the feeling of the outdoors.

The so-called "double nest" system allows the young to benefit from these conditions while remaining supervised by their parents.

For the well-being of raptors and better development, cameras have been installed to monitor the animals while limiting human presence.

The device will also give Internet users the opportunity to follow the life of the bald eagles.

This species of fishing eagle once evolved around Lake Geneva.

In the wild, however, it had disappeared from the region more than a century ago.
