Italian police arrested more than 100 people in nationwide raids against the mafia.

According to the authorities, the action was directed on Tuesday morning against members of the 'Ndrangheta, one of the large Italian mafia groups with roots in Calabria.

It is considered to be one of the largest players in the international drug trade.

A ton of cocaine from South America was also seized during the raids on the units in Reggio Calabria, Milan, Florence and Livorno.

The arrested are accused of membership in a mafia-like association, extortion, illegal possession of weapons, money laundering, drug trafficking, fraudulent bankruptcy, tax fraud and corruption, as reported by the Ansa news agency.

In the morning, the police wanted to announce more details.
