There is only one step left, the highest, and it could look like a mountain to climb to get the precious ticket for the 2022 World Cup. On December 18, we will know the posters, but we will have to wait until the end of March 2022 to know the five teams that will represent Africa in Qatar in a year.

The drawing of lots will be "directed" with five countries, first in the last Fifa ranking, which will have the privilege of being seeded and will therefore not be able to cross paths.

The four semi-finalists of the last CAN (Algeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Nigeria) as well as Morocco will not meet if we refer to the current Fifa ranking which will not change in a few days as the differences between some and others leave room.

Algeria-Egypt, Senegal-Mali?

But the non-seeded teams have everything to give a hard time to the five "privileged" and at the moment, the DRC can appear as a "good draw" because being the small surprise of these dams.

The Congolese selection is the only one qualified for the play-offs and not for the CAN, but it was also in a pool (Benin, Madagascar, Tanzania) where no team qualified for the African Cup….

Mali, the only country among the ten, to have never played in the World Cup could also be seen as a good pick, but the Eagles who flew over their group (5 wins, a draw, will not present themselves as expiatory victims.

Will we see an enticing Senegal-Mali derby or a remake, always hot, Egypt-Algeria?

One certainty: the truth of today will certainly not be that of March as the current dynamics will be tested by the CAN in less than three months.

The road to Qatar is still long ...

The ten teams qualified for the play-offs

Series heads: Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Nigeria

No seeds: Egypt, Ghana, Cameroon, Mali, DR Congo
