In the TV series The unlikely killer, there is no doubt about who murdered Olof Palme - Skandiamannen is pointed out as the perpetrator.

The producers emphasize that it is a fictional depiction and each episode has been added to the bonfire that it has not been proven that Engström murdered Olof Palme.

In a written comment to Kulturnyheterna, Netflix has previously also said that the series does not claim to solve the case, and that it is based on the book "The unlikely killer" by Thomas Pettersson.

The person as a JK-reported series, however, believes that that explanation does not hold, and that Stig Engström was subjected to a character murder, something the magazine Avsnitt was the first to tell.

"The fact that a designation is made in fiction has never constituted an obstacle to a conviction for defamation or slander of the deceased and the same reasoning should be applied to the type of (" reality "inspired") fiction in question, "the complainant writes and also notes that the film medium has a particularly strong impact compared to literature.

"The Chancellor of Justice would have a good case"

In order for JK to proceed with a defamation case, it needs to be called for from a general point of view.

This means that the case has a greater significance for, for example, a trade union or other parts of society.

It is unusual for such a decision to be made, but lawyer Dag Wetterberg believes that it could be so in this particular case.

- When you have singled out someone for such a serious crime, and when it is also quite difficult to show that it is true, it becomes slander.

And it would be, I would say, also gross slander.

So the Chancellor of Justice would have a pretty good case, says Dag Wetterberg.

- This is such a serious thing that has affected the whole of Swedish society for a long time.

So that I would probably say that it is called for from a general point of view.

No investigation against the Palm investigation

In 2012, JK refrained from proceeding with a report from a private person about defamation of the deceased against the film Call girl.

The film shows a man similar to Olof Palme buying sex from a minor.

JK did not take up the report because it did not come from a family member or relative.

The family then reported the film, but JK did not proceed with that report either, referring to the fact that they only initiate a preliminary investigation into press freedom violations in "particularly qualified cases."

In August 2020, Chief Prosecutor Anders Jakobsson decided at the Special Prosecutor's Office not to initiate a preliminary investigation into crime after Palme investigator Krister Petersson pointed out Stig Engström as a possible perpetrator during a press conference in June 2020.

Petersson was reported to several authorities for defamation of the deceased.

Netflix has declined to comment on the defamation report.
