The Vaucluse departmental council announced this Friday the upcoming closure of traffic to and from Mont Ventoux (Vaucluse).

The pass made famous in particular by stages of the Tour de France will no longer be accessible from the morning of Thursday, November 18, local authorities said in a statement.

They put forward security reasons related to winter weather conditions.

As every year, the territorial agents in charge of the site will lower the barriers preventing the passage of vehicles on the roads concerned, explains

It will then be impossible to ascend.

However, the Mont-Serein and Chalet Reynard stations are not targeted by the ban.

This will apply to a section of the RD974.

Mandatory specific material

On the southern slope of Mont Ventoux, it will be forbidden to take the road after Chalet Reynard.

On the northern slope, access will be cut off from Mont Serein.

Cars wishing to travel in certain areas between November 18, 2021 and May 13, 2022 must also have installed chains or non-slip tires in the event of snowfall.

The restoration of traffic on the entire RD974 is scheduled for April 8, 2022 on the southern slope and May 13 on the other slope.

These dates are however likely to vary in the event of meteorological disturbances.
