Following the recommendations of a mediation mission, the government decided this Sunday to notably postpone the vaccination obligation for caregivers to December 31 in Martinique, where an inter-union from the CHU is opposed to the health pass and this obligation. The Ministers of Health and Overseas Olivier Véran and Sébastien Lecornu have retained "two provisions" to "take into account the health situation: the general free testing will be maintained until December 31, 2021, the vaccination obligation (diagram full vaccine) will be required for healthcare personnel by the same deadline of December 31, 2021, ”the government said in a press release.

December 31 is the date of the end of the state of health emergency in this overseas department.

Initially scheduled for October 24, after a first exemption, the first injection must be carried out before December 6.

Arrived on November 1 in Fort-de-France to find a way out of the current conflict, the national mediator Danielle Toupillier had indicated Saturday, during a press conference, to have met more than a hundred people during his stay on the island, where the population "worried and fractured" was "particularly affected by a 4th murderous wave".

Less than 40% of those over 12 have a complete vaccination schedule

According to the latest figures from the Regional Health Agency (ARS), 700 people have died from Covid-19 at the Fort-de-France CHU since the start of the epidemic, and only 38.6% of people from over 12 years of age have a complete vaccination schedule. Supported by the virologist Emmanuel Gordien, and the director of work at the prefecture Léandre Beauroy, the mediator did not manage to set up mediation, in the face of the health intersyndicale who demanded the widening of the scope of her mission beyond the public service alone.

However, she made six recommendations in order to "maintain the capacity of patient care" at the Martinique University Hospital, who "fear a degradation of care, with the division" that reigns between the hospital teams. In their press release, the ministers underline that "the low vaccination coverage of the Martinican population exposes the territory to the occurrence of a fifth wave which could have even more catastrophic consequences than the fourth wave still in progress".

“National solidarity has been exercised consistently for the benefit of Martinique which, since August 1, 2021, has received the reinforcement of 1,778 caregivers and has benefited from 13 medical evacuations to France for a total of 80 patients.

This completely exceptional solidarity, if it were to be requested again due to a fifth wave, will have to take into account the difficulties linked to the context of epidemic recovery in metropolitan France, ”warn Olivier Véran and Sébastien Lecornu.
