The conservative-environmental government of Austria has approved that from Sunday night to Monday a series of movement restrictions come into force only for people not vaccinated against
Covid-19
and those who have not had the disease in the last 180 days.
The government leadership has met in a videoconference with the governors of the nine federal states to agree on a measure considered necessary due to the
dramatic rise in infections
in recent weeks.
This Saturday, more than
13,000 new infections
in 24 hours
were announced for the first time since the outbreak of the pandemic
, while the number of people hospitalized exceeds 2,100, of them 421 in intensive care units (ICU).
The restrictions mean that unvaccinated people (more than a third of the Austrian population, 8.9 million people), will
only be able to leave their homes to go to work or study
, and to
go to basic necessities
, such as supermarkets or pharmacies.
In addition, they will be able to go to the
doctor
,
religious services
,
vaccination centers
or go out for
a
walk, as stipulated by legal regulations, of which the Austrian news agency APA has seen a copy.
Of course, it
will be prohibited to enter non-essential stores, restaurants, bars, gyms, hairdressers and massage or pedicure studios, sporting and cultural events
, among others.
Excluded from these prohibitions will be minors under 12 years of age and pregnant women.
The authorities intend to control the
new restrictions
through random inspections and with fines of up to 500 euros for individuals and
up to 3,600 euros
for establishments that allow access to unvaccinated or uncured people.
People who have a single dose of a
Covid-19
vaccine
will be able to move freely as long as they have a negative PCR test, valid for 48 hours.
PCR tests in Austria are free.
The
restrictions
for
not vaccinated
or not cured will be decreed for an initial period of ten days, until November 24, and its official justification is "to avoid a collapse of the health system."
The Austrian Parliament, where the popular ÖVP party and the Green environmentalists have a majority, will have to vote on the new regulation on the same Sunday, shortly before its entry into force.
Austria
is one of the countries with the lowest vaccination rate in Western Europe, with 65% of the adult population immunized so far.
In total, about 11,700 people have died from
Covid-19 so far
, 48 of them in the last 24 hours.
