"Physical Test Linked Diploma", it's time to get real

If you are a freshman in this "double first-class" university, and you fail the middle and long distance running, pull-ups, sit-ups, standing long jump, sorry, in 4 years, you will not get your diploma!

This is not a joke.

The university that has issued the "strictest sports school regulations" is Yunnan University.

Starting in the fall of 2021, the school will directly link the student's physical fitness test to the graduation certificate.

In the past two days, the news of Yunnan University’s "Strict Sports School Regulations" has attracted attention.

According to reports, the school’s new sports regulations require that all grades of the undergraduate program offer compulsory sports courses for a total of 200 hours in four years.

Each semester's physical education examination content is divided into three parts: "sports skills + physical test + usual results". If the total score fails, no matter how good your academic performance is, you will not be able to get a Yunda diploma.

"Physical Test Linked Diploma" is not the first initiative of Yunnan University.

This requirement was put forward by the Ministry of Education in 2007. In 2014, the Ministry of Education issued the "Basic Standards for Physical Education in Colleges and Universities", which clearly stipulated that "the National Student Physical Health Standards should be established and improved." An important basis for evaluation of excellence and first. Students who have a test score of less than 50 points upon graduation will be treated as completion of the course."

However, in recent years, this regulation has not been fully implemented. Some colleges and universities worry that if they are strictly enforced, a considerable number of college students will not be able to graduate. Therefore, they often turn their eyes and close their eyes during the operation, or use physical examinations instead of physical tests. .

Despite the continuous improvement of social living standards, it is an indisputable fact that the physical fitness of college students has continued to decline.

In September of this year, the Ministry of Education released the results of the 8th National Student Physical Fitness and Health Survey.

Compared with 2014, in 2019, the physical fitness of 19-22 year-old college students across the country showed a downward trend in many indicators. Male and female students' grip strength, standing long jump, 50-meter running, male pull-ups, and sitting forward bends all declined to varying degrees. , Representing endurance quality, the boys' 1000m and girls' 800m scores dropped by 12.37 seconds and 9.56 seconds respectively.

The fundamental reason for the continued decline in the physical fitness of college students is insufficient exercise and poor lifestyle.

On the one hand, the curriculum at the primary and secondary level is heavy and the health awareness training is not systematic, leading to the formation of sedentary behaviors and lack of health awareness to actively participate in physical exercises.

Unhealthy lifestyles such as insufficient exercise, insufficient sleep, irregular work and rest, and unreasonable meals harm the physical fitness of students and affect their physical and mental health.

At the same time, the development of the Internet has made many college students addicted to the virtual world and rarely have time to exercise outdoors.

As Wang Zongping, Dean of the School of Physical Education of Yunnan University, said: “Nowadays, college students need too much to improve their physical fitness.

To enhance the physical fitness of college students and curb the continued downward trend, in addition to strengthening publicity and guidance, it is also necessary to force pressure through the system to inspire students to strengthen exercise and develop good habits.

Blindly accommodating the status quo of poor physical fitness of college students and shelving the implementation of the “physical test linked to graduation certificate” regulation seems to be love for college students, but it is actually a harm.

Over time, a vicious circle has formed. Colleges and universities are less and less dare to compare real physical test results, and college students pay less and less attention to physical health.

The practice of Yunnan University is worth promoting, and it is time to get real.

The "Physical Test Linked Diploma" is not a scourge.

As long as all physical education classes are fully opened, the main position of the physical education classroom is fully utilized, coupled with the active cooperation and active exercise of the students, the physical fitness of the students will be greatly improved and the "small goal" of obtaining a diploma can be achieved.

Some college teachers bluntly said that "99% of students can pass the test after exercising."

Reaching the standard is only one aspect, and more importantly, through this kind of "goodwill compulsion" to help college students develop the habit of exercise, it will benefit for life.
